Please see this letter for more information about the concert.
There is also a silent auction of art in the library between now and May 2. Items have been donated by local artists, and all proceeds will go to the Band Boosters to support the band program

Please see this linked letter (from 3/19/2024) that has a brief description of the events that are still-to-come on this year's band calendar.
There will still be a couple of events added in May for the 5th graders who are interested in joining band, but those events only involve a few volunteers, and those dates are yet to be chosen. The final band concert will be MAY 1 (this is a change from the original date)
Please let me know immediately if you are aware of anything that conflicts with this new concert date. The original date conflicted with two sports, which would have caused problems for many of the students in band. The new date appears to be clear on the sports calendar (according to the AD) and on the school calendar (according to the M/HS principal). I'm really looking forward to our upcoming concert, on February 21 at 7 PM, featuring all of our bands, as well as some solo & ensemble performances. The warmup and performance schedule is slightly altered from the previous concert, so please make sure to look over the letter that is linked below for details. Also, the 7th and 8th Grade Band and High School Band each have festival performances on February 22 and February 23, respectively. Please see the previous post on this website for the corresponding letters.
Here is the letter about the band concert. Both the 7th/8th Grade Band and High School Band will be attending MSBOA District 13 Band Festival in Rudyard this year. The events will take place on Thursday, February 22 (7th/8th), and Friday, February 23 (high school). The letters that are linked below will provide the details for students and families to help be prepared.
It is critical that students practice their parts leading up to this event! Sooner is better than later, because the sooner everyone can play the notes and rhythms for each song, the sooner we can work to make all of the parts fit together and work on making the most musical performance we can. When students cannot perform their parts, valuable rehearsal time is wasted. Please help us to have a successful festival experience by encouraging practice at home! Our bands have had the highest possible rating (earning a "1" from each of the judges) each of the last three times we attended district band festival. Let's keep the tradition going with two more top ratings!
Winter is upon us and there are a couple of important events coming up. The first is the fruit and coffee order pickup date, which is December 6. The second is our Christmas Concert, which is December 13. Volunteers are needed at both events. Please follow this link to the letter that describes both events and the help that is needed. Please consider helping out!
The year is off to a good start, and the first marking period is already half over! This post is a general update letter to help you know what’s coming up.
Grades 6-8 Playing Assignments and Practice All band students in grades 6-8 need to complete playing assignments each marking period. Most of these assignments are passed when a student masters them, so they should continue working until they have 10/10. They should also be practicing multiple times per week in order to learn their music and perfect playing assignments. Fruit and Coffee Sale The fruit and coffee sale takes place to help students have money toward band trips and events. 90% of the money raised stays with the student’s “band grade” (it follows their class through the years). This year’s sale is November 1-13, with items needing to be picked up (by the student/parent) on December 6. Band Boosters: Next Meeting October 23 at 4:30 (in the band room) There is a band booster group at our school whose purpose is to support the band program. They provide scholarship money for band camps, help buy instruments, run receptions after concerts, and more. Without parents (or others) to help the group run, the boosters will disappear, along with one funding source for the band. Please come to the next meeting to see how you can help! Band Concert: December 13, 7 PM All band students have a required concert on December 13 in the auditorium. Additional details will be coming out in a future letter. Other Events See this link the band calendar. Bold dates are required concerts for all students. August 21-25: Band Camp (6th Grade and High School) and Football Game (HS)
Band camp is here! Camp is free, and is required for incoming 6th grade and high school band students (there is no camp for grades 7 and 8). For 6th graders, the camp is an opportunity to learn the basics of each instrument in small, like-instrument groups. It helps the year to get off to a smooth start by reducing frustration when we meet as a full class. For high school band, camp helps us to be prepared for the first football game and parade, which are on August 25. 6th Grade Camp Schedule (Daily): HERE IS THE 6th GRADE CAMP LETTER
HS Camp Schedule: HERE IS THE HS BAND CAMP LETTER
Meet the Emeralds: Friday, August 18, 2023 at 7:30 PM at the stadium.
Meet the Emeralds is a new event this year, and is like a pep rally for the start of the year. Each of the teams (including the band) will be introduced, and some games will be played. This is an optional event for HS band members, but you're encouraged to come and be introduced! Please plan to wear your pep band shirt (or other Manistique Band shirt, if you have one), unless you are on another sports team, then you can wear that uniform. Those who don't have pep band shirts should contact Mr. Connin so he can get you one. No instruments are needed for the event. |
